sickies
My girlies have RSV, bronchiolitus, and ear infections. They are not feeling well or sleeping well, so neither am I. Ahh, fun times!
The place that I frequent on the outskirts of everything else. Knitting, spinning, dyeing, gardening, baking, and some thoughts on motherhood.

First an update on THE sock project, current socks, and hand.
I’ve ordered through my Brown Sheep connection, (Can’t beat having your own personal supplier!) all the BS yarn I need for the Folk Socks projects. Last I heard it went in last Monday or Tuesday. So I’m waiting for that. Patiently, really, I am being patient.
Current socks. These are going quite well. In fact a good evening of knitting and they will be done. See ….
I really like the yarn. Who would have thought that all those people that rave about Koigu would be right?
Despite the hand thing, I’m really happy with my toasty toe progress. I got my stitches out of Friday. Immediately I bend my thumb. Right, cause that’s what people like me do. Pop! goes the wound! But the nurse said it looks great, so I guess the pop was to be expected. Still, it was probably a good thing my stomach was empty. The pain in slowly going away. The scar is ugly. The nurse says with the type of cells the lab showed it is likely that it will come back. Why did I have this done again?
This new project needs a name. I’m thinking something like, “oh, so me” ’cause this sweater is. Flipping through Ravelry – cause it is crack on a sleepless night – I found Tangled Yoke Cardigan. Yippee! I had even seen all my old issues the day before when I packed them up (story soon). So down to the basement and stack of book boxes I went. When flipping through Fall 2007 of Interweave Knits I found it. Dickenson Pullover. My dream sweater (at least one of them). Should I be “shopping” in a spring issue instead of a fall. Probably. Should I be knitting it in a spring color instead of a fall. Probably. I said it before though. This sweater will be “oh, so me.”
I’m working on my third gauge swatch. Hopefully this isn’t telling … the first I did a k2p2 rib on the needle size the pattern recommended. Gotta start somewhere. Too big. The second I did a k2p2 rib on 2 sizes smaller (US7) and I got gauge!! BUT then I looked a bit closer … I think the textured pattern they are referring to is the little 4 row repeat (of 8 sts). Grr … so I’m working a third swatch, on that same US7.
The yarn … ohhhhh, the yarn! I bought this a couple of years ago at Personal Threads year end sale thinking it would make a lovely cable sweater for myself … someday. (original pic here) Rowan RYC Silk/Wool DK. It is 50% silk, 50% merino and 100% awesome. Can you imagine my excitement when I pulled it out yesterday and saw I had exactly the right amount of yarn? Possibly even an extra ball?!? Very excited about this project. It will require a bit more active thought than I’ve put into a project recently, but I think that will be good for me. Now back to the gauge swatch before my monkies wake up.
I feel a new project coming on.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m loving all these socks, but I’d like to knit something on a larger pair of needles. Something fall back on when I really just want to zone.
sweater (I have several to choose from without going yarn shopping – almost depressing) for me, Hubby, mom, girls, dad … maybe I have too much yarn???
baby blanket (they’ll be two this spring)
scarf/hat/mittens for me (everyone else I love has one now)
quick little things to sell (soap sacks, etc)
shawl for grandma (due date of April)
or maybe I should just stick to socks …
It is practically IMPOSSIBLE to get Dr offices to leave test results on our answering machine. Really, it IS ok. I gave you permission!
I finished a sock last night. Tropical Toes 1 is done. I used the same heel but a wide toe 2, I believe. I like the toe better, for sure. I’m not knitting these up as quick this time, but I don’t feel I’m moving that slow … considering. No knitting lasted about 24 hours. I found that knitting is fine, purling a bit harder, so I just have to be selective with my projects and stitches. I started Tropical Toes 2 last night, but only did a couple of rows. I’m really hoping I can take the purling and move forward with these.
I’ve also knit an ear on the mysterious elephant. Picking up the stitches for another appendage (ear included) is tight knitting on dpn. Not sure my hand can take that.
My stitches come out on Friday. I hope this makes things less painful. Hopfully it is healing and won’t pop open. It opened a bit this weekend. Oh wow that hurt! Off to knit a bit why the girls finish up their nap.
Dizzy and sick to my stomach today. The hand thing? I hope so, kind of …
One of the little Misses almost picked up a dead mouse in the Desert Dome (zoo) today. I grabbed her just in time, with my left hand, of course, and promptly assumed the fetal position. Ouch. But at least she didn’t pick up a dead mouse, right? It looked like more of a predator kill vs a disease kill. It had a bloody neck, like it had been attacked by one of their free roaming birds. That’s my story anyway.
The zoo on a warm (30 F) day with snow piles and dirty melting snow everywhere, with twin toddler girls who just want to sit in the snow/dirty melt, who sign potty every 5 minutes. Not fun!
