On my sock project that is. Casted on for “A Classic Sock Pattern” (Rav link here) just now. Ok, so I’m a few rows in and restless (NOT a good sign) already.

I feel like I’m cheating a bit. I haven’t completely finished my Christmas knitting. Mike’s surprise slippers I gave up on and stuffed the yarn and slipper bottoms in his stocking. He was surprised (!!) and graciously understood that I didn’t want to stay up all night knitting them. I finished the knitting last night and hope to get the bottoms sewn on tonight. Luck to me! Sewing is not my forte!

The Christmas elephant is probably going to become the mid January elephant. New a break from that too. At least bunny is done and waiting patiently in the armoire …

More on knotsewshabby … they refunded my money. How can I stay irritated with them? Ok, maybe I am still irritated, I am going to have to find all the materials for the new books and sew them up myself, but I’ll also get exactly what I want (and originally tried to pay for). Onward we go … but I’m not taking down my post. Someone else may find it and save themselves some hassle. :-P

do not let them win!

A bit pressed for time this holiday season I ordered a fabric activity book from http://www.etsy.com/shop/knotsewshabby You would think that what is pictured is what you would get. Um no, apparently not! Which is a major disappointment!
We specifically picked the item we did because of what was pictured. A few days later shopping a pattern sale I found Simplicity 3709. What the heck!

So I bought it, am cutting it out, modifying it, and soon we will have what I tried to order from knotsewshabby. They will not win!

As soon as I finish my Christmas knitting (and I’m making good progress) I’m going to start another project. It is a BIG one and I am excited.
Here’s a materials list (to help me organize ordering and to help me realize how big of a project this is going to be. By company:

Brown Sheep Company (my favorite yarn co – and made right here in the frozen tundra of NE)
2 skeins fingering weight sock yarn (50g/215yds). I’m going to use Wildfoote in Lilac Desert.
2 skeins Nature Spun 3-ply sport (natural is called for but I have this in a dark blue)
2 skeins Wildfoote in vanilla
2 skeins Nature Spun 3-ply sport 1 grey heather, 1 natural
2 skeins Nature Spun 3-ply sport in ash
3 skeins Wildfoote; 1 vanilla, 1 black orchid, 1 licorice stick
2 skeins Nature Spun 3-ply sport; 1 natural, 1 charcoal

Dale of Norway
8 skeins Heilo; 4 black, 3 light grey, 1 red

Berroco
2 skeins Wendy Guernsey; 1 blue, 1 natural
2 skeins Wendy Guernsey in bright red

Renaissance Yarns
Froehlich-Wolle Special Blauband; 2 white, partial turquoise, yellow, black, red
2 skeins Froehlich-Wolle Sedrun; 2 cream, 1 red
3 skeins Froehlich-Wolle Sedrun; 2 amber, 1 black
5 skeins Froehlich-Wolle Sedrun; 1 parchment, 1 wine, 1 blue, 1 gold, 1 brown
3 skeins Froehlich-Wolle Special in multi color or indigo

Nordic Fiber Arts

Raumagarn Finullgarn; 2 dark cherry, partial bright red, dull red, rose, burgandy
Raumagarn Finullgarn; 2 fawn, 1 deep rust, 1 burgandy, 1 navy

Schoolhouse Yarns
1 skein Vuorelma Oy Satakieli in natural

Jamieson and Smith’s
7 skeins Shetland Jumper Weight; 2 dark green, 1 medium green, 1 light green, 1 dark rust, 1 medium rust, 1 light rust

I’m not sure I have all the yarns listed right. I haven’t gotten around to looking them all up yet. I have the yarn for the first 1 (or two) projects depending on how true to color I want to be. I think color is fairly important. As well as technique. I’ll be using dpns to knit these, versus my typical two long circular needles for the two-at-a-time approach. At least I’ll start out that way.

There is a book that goes along with this madness too (considering it more of a madness now that I see the yarn list). Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. I’m listening to Julie and Julia and might be a bit inspired. Can you be inspired to craziness? Or will craziness be a result of this attempt?

There is no doubt that this is be a LARGE and time consuming project. It may very well take me longer than a year to complete this (because of course I can’t have just one project going at a time) and I want to finish the cable sweater, and the three icelandic style sweaters, and the fair isle vest and I’d like to get mom’s argyle vest off my plate too. Maybe two years?? Three? It is a LONG term goal and I hope to learn about historical sock knitting and learn some new-to-me techniques to incorporate into future sock patterns.

Off to work on that Christmas knitting. Two projects left … both, ironically for the feet.

Christmas knitting is taking over. That is all I do, all I think about. 11 days and about as many projects to finish.

Why no, I do not think I’ll finish on time, but I’m going to try. Off to knit another soap sack.

You need this information. Especially if you knit socks from the toe up. Follow the link (that’s an order) and check out the sewn bind off. I love it!
