new yarn – organics

I made absolutely no progress on the baby blanket yesterday. I was so freaking sick I could hardly nurse the girls. Even today knitting is a little rough – nothing like knitting when dizzy (when there is no beer involved).

So here are a couple of pictures of my new yarn procurements.

P1010336.jpg Organic cotton machine washable! WooHoo! to machine washable! Naturally colored too! The natural and green are going to be big bad intarsia baby blankets – which you have already seen the start of – and the brown and more of the green are going to be a couple of Sheldons
P1010337.jpg This is also organic cotton, not machine washable, but I’ve really been wanting to try it – so here it is. It is meant for sophie. The fish aren’t machine washable either and so far they have survived. I have discovered though that quick movement after spit-up saves us from odors – eventually I’m sure they will need a bath.
P1010335.jpg Organic wool DK sock yarn. Yummy – for moi! I can’t even remember the last sock (or pair) I knit myself – hopefully these will be the next.

P1010328.jpg More organic DK sock yarn. I thought this was cotton – not sure what I WAS thinking – it isn’t – 100% wool. It was originally destined for a sock turtle (bottom yarn in pic) and a sock giraffe (top yarn in pic), now I’ll have to think about it a little more. I don’t really want to run the risk of felting the little buggers. I do love the sock turtle and giraffe patterns, but I really want the girls toys – at least the ones I make – to be organic (which this is – but it sure isn’t washable – at least not my kind of washable). That way I can be OK with them going in the mouth and being sucked on (favorite pass time with fish).
P1010316.jpg see – it happens!

day one ends

with a mistake.

I tried to fix it this morning, but in the process discovered another.

Can you see them?

How about now?

P1010309.jpg

I did an extra stitch in natural on a couple of rows and then somehow got off and was doing a rib instead of a seed stitch. One mistake I could have probably over looked, two, well no, I can’t overlook two. It is true that I could have fixed the rib vs seed issue, but I wanted to fix the other as well, so I ripped. So for day one, 12 rows knit – 4 rows frogged = 8 rows of progress. Kind of depressing. But onward I shall go!

This is going to be the big bad baby blanket from stitch n bitch nation. Here are some pictures of others. I’m doing a checkerboard approach and making it the big bad intarsia baby blanket. I’m also toying with the idea of putting each girl’s name on her blanket. Something subtle, like in the corner of one of the knit squares doing the name in purls. Or possibly between the two colors doing a first and middle name, one in each color, one in knit and one in purl. Follow me? Thoughts? I’ll need to decide soon, or else do it upside down later.
I feel like total and utter crap today (so don’t expect a lot of progress for day two!). One of my babies was dreadfully sick yesterday (she appears to be over it now and knock on wood the other baby seems to have escaped it!). So today it is just mama that is suffering. Sucks, but I’ll still take it over what we went through yesterday.

stop the madness

I have a need to knit something. To start a new project. I don’t quite understand it, maybe it has something to do with the new year – starting in one minute – maybe not.

I finished the pink fish. Here is is meeting it’s stuffing. The stuffing is really beautiful organic cotton from Near Sea Naturals. I highly recommend this stuff. P1010272.jpg Beautiful, beautiful cotton.

You finished MY pink fishy – I’m so excited! P1010274.jpg

Look at his tail – what a great tail!P1010275.jpg Don’t rush me – I’m getting there. P1010277.jpg Ah, mom, she’s so soft and cuddly, P1010279.jpg I’m so very excited to have my own fishy! P1010280.jpg Got to taste the tail – make sure she is yummy P1010282.jpg Yep, she’s yummy, How’s the purple fishy?P1010284.jpg Good – purple fishy is good too! P1010259.jpg P1010260.jpg I’m still excited about this purple fishy!

Thanks for indulging us. Resolutions? Yes a few. I’ll try and talk some more about those tomorrow. Sleepy? Yes very. We are 22 minutes into the new year now. I wish everyone the best and be careful out there. I still have a need to knit, but I think I’m going to call it a night.
