I just finished my top!!

This is the first thing I have ever sewn for myself to wear! In Home Economics – back in Jr High – when the other girls picked something like sweatshirts out of the “sewing kit” book, I made a sleeper for an anticipated cousin. So this is my first me garment and I’m pretty excited about it. I even modified the pattern a little.

It is top C found here. It is supposed to be a modified wrap. It just “looks” like a wrap, but I made it into a real wrap.

I hope I can get the pants finished in the next couple of days – I’m half way there already!

surgery

This morning was all about knitting surgery.

I did my first repair work on a commercial sweater for a friend. Can you see it??

I had to frog part of the overalls to go back and knit another forgotten pattern row. Last night the movie was Open Season (so much better than the last!). Here’s a progress shot of those. I’m ALMOST ready to start the top section!

I got another start on the soakers and here’s a sort of shot of the yarn. I ALWAYS forget to take a picture of it before I start.

My other task this morning was lanolinizing the first soakers I made.

This just goes against every part of me that is a spinner. I HATE working with wool with lanolin. Spinning in the “dirt” disgusts me! I guess if it makes them water proof though – it is worth it – and of course I didn’t spin this wool, it just seems odd to take it out and then add it back in.. This stuff smells much better than the raw stuff too. I got the ‘blackraspberry vanilla’ flavor. Yum!

I’ve been busy doing lots of stuff.

I’m sewing diapers and pajamas. I’m knitting soakers and overalls. I’m taking lots of naps too.

I’m just not blogging about any of it, yet.

The diapers need to be washed before I take pictures of them. Hopefully the washable markers to mark the fabric DO wash out. The pajamas I just don’t think are interesting yet.

The soakers I just ripped out – it would take way to long to knit them with size 4’s. the overalls are actually progressing nicely (despite being distracted by the Sound of Thunder – not a great move – but distracting). I’ve put another ball of yarn into them since last week.

Naps – I think I took about 3 hours worth of naps today. Felt awesome!

What’s up for the next week. More of same and hopefully some blogging too.

soaker and garden update

I finished a soaker! The second one is finished too, except for the little legs. This was Galaway worsted weight yarn and a pattern I modified a bit to fit I’m hoping a 0-3 month old young one (or two!)

I’ve also made some progress on the overalls since I last talked about them and took their picture. At this point I have knitted the front and back flat, joined them in the round and sewn the side seams up. I’ll continue in the round for another 7 inches or so then start the top. I think that on the second pair I’m going to try and do the legs in the round from the beginning – it just goes so much faster.

We also finished planting our garden this week.

On the left we have tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and peppers. On the right, you can see the rows for basil, more peppers, a row for onions, and the radishes, lettuce, and sweet peas I planted a couple of weeks ago.
We have cherry tomatoes on the porch again and Hubby does an awesome job of keeping them watered for me. He’s the best!

Tomorrow I’m starting a new sewing project … I’m excited and nervous all in one!

busy, busy

Even though I haven’t been blogging, I have been busy.

Here’s what I’ve been working on:

Wool soakers for the girls. I did them two at a time – so I have the bodies done – they each just need legs. I started the legs on this one this afternoon.

I’m learning to sew again! I’m super excited! According to Dyan – and she knows. Blankets made with some of “the ugliest material in the store.” (No – I probably won’t ever let you live that down – and I know you’ll stick to your guns too :-P )

AND my new friend A is teaching me to sew diapers! Check out cute these are going to be!

They are flannel with terry inners – so they will still need covers – which will hide the pink camo cuteness, but what new little baby girl doesn’t need a pink camo rear???
