unfinished projects unite

My unfinished projects need to unite.  They need to make their way downstairs, find me, and put themselves in my hands.  I need some motivation!!  I’m not hard to find, I haven’t moved much, I’m on the couch.  Why?  Well, that’s where Hubby is.  He is feeling much better (the Cardinals winning the World Series helped quite a bit, I think), but he still doesn’t stray far from the couch.  He can get up for 10 or 15 minutes, but much longer than that and he is ready to head back to the couch.  So that’s where I am too; ready to lend a hand, fluff a pillow, or hand him a remote.

Here’s a quick look at the unfinished project list …. Lopi sweater, mom’s socks, my dream sweater, Hubby’s slippers, and mom’s sweater vest.  Those are the pending things, the things that come to mind first.  Thinking a little harder … there’s the baby outfit I’ve promised, the mittens I need to make for the OWSG sale, and I need to fix my sweater.

How do I decide what to work on?  I think that might be the problem, too many projects and not enough conscious waking time.

Let’s examine the deadlines …

Lopi sweater. Winter is approaching fast, but it is for me so I should probably put it off a while

Mom’s socks.  I wanted to have her vest done by her birthday (mid November), but since that isn’t going to happen I should probably at least finish her socks.  I have one done.  I could give her one for her birthday and one for Christmas.  She’d still love me, right?  She has to, she’s my mom.

My dream sweater.  Again that is for me (obviously), so I should put it off.

Hubby’s slippers.  He has a pair from last year, true they have a couple of holes, but they are so boring to work on!

Mom’s sweater vest.  I really did want to have it done by her birthday (mid November), I’ve had some of the yarn since May, but with pattern interference and my recently discovered love of knitting socks … I’m thinking Christmas or maybe my birthday (in March).  I could give her a sweater for my birthday, right?  I actually just received a new pattern for this item yesterday.  Brilliant!  Absolutely brilliant! (the pattern, that is)  I’ll write more about this later.  This post is already getting wordy and this pattern deserves it’s own post!

The baby outfit?  Yep, I need to make a baby outfit, but no worries, it isn’t for us.  I donated my knitting time and materials for a recent charity fundraiser raffle.  The guy that won my prize has a baby due Dec 23rd.  He wants me to make a little baby set.  I don’t have a pattern or yarn, so that HAS to wait … a little at least.

Mittens.  I recently joined the Omaha Weaving and Spinning Guild (OWSG).  They have a big fiber arts sale near the end of November.  I’ve been encouraged to participate, so I’m trying to come up with some quick season type of things.  Mittens.

My sweater vest.  This is what I made to wear to Candice’s wedding (wedding shrug wearer).  It is wearable, but I’m not crazy about it.  I’ve decided to rip part of it out and make the back and front a couple of inches longer, it is a little short in the chest.

So what should I work on?  I don’t know.   That’s why I wish the projects would come to me.  Let them battle it out based on deadline, entertainment value, and needle size I can’t decide.

I’m here on the couch.  Projects, come fine me.

safe at home

I haven’t been doing much knitting or spinning for that matter.  Here’s why …

When I was home last week with my head bump Hubby stayed home on Friday because he was complaining of what he thought was indigestion.  He took some Alka-seltzer and felt better as the day went on.  Saturday and Sunday he didn’t feel too bad, but the pain moved down to where us lay people would put his appendix.  Monday he wanted to go to the doctor, a surprise to me because he is a Macho Man, but after 3 1/2 days of pain I thought it was a good idea.  His doctor immediately thought it could be an appendicitis (high WBC count with pain in the right place) and sent him for a CT scan.  This is where it gets interesting.  The CT scan picked up the appendix problem, but not the fact that it was ruptured!!  So we didn’t hurry to the hospital and the surgeon didn’t hurry to get him in.  Not until the surgeon was in did she find out that his appendix was ruptured.  Afterwards the surgeon told me that his appendix had probably ruptured two or three days earlier, so probably Thursday night.  She said that there was so much infection stuff in him that she had a hard time telling between his bowls and the infection stuff.

The good news is (knock on wood) that he is doing well now.  He came home on Wednesday and has a drain thingy (JP drain) that we go and hopefully get removed on Tuesday.  He seems to be feeling better and his appetite has improved so I’m feeling better now too.

I guess that I could have gotten a lot of knitting done, but I was a little too worried (and tired) to do much.  I finished one of my mom’s socks and I got pretty far on a Lopi sleeve (probably close to being done, but I need to find a sweater to measure).

The World Series is on.  Game 5, the Cardinals are up 3 to 1 so if they win tonight they win the series!  Hubby is a HUGE Cards fan, so this is good for him.  He says he sacrificed his appendix to the “gods” so the Cardinals would win.

Go Cards!  And get better Hubby!!

The World Series Game 2 is on so I’m only going to post some pictures.

And so I will try plying tomorrow.  I’ve got a bobbin of grey and one of brown.  I have a plan for my first hand spun … a sweater.  Of course I’ll need to finish and ply roughly another gazillion bobbins.  This grey/brown that I’m going to attempt to ply tomorrow will be a strip around the breast.  It is a raglan type of sweater from Spin to Knit by Shannon Okey.

I’m going to finish my mittens now, they should have been done earlier, but I didn’t like the thumb the pattern made so I had to make up my own and it took a couple of tries to get it right.  Pictures of the mittens and my yarn (hopefully wonderfully plied) tomorrow.

what happened?

I’m not 100% sure my self.  My husband says our friend who hosts for me got rooted.  His server not himself personally.  So my blog was gone for a few days, but they did manage to restore most of it.  I think I lost 3 posts and one comment.  It could have been worse.

What else happened is that I have a minor concussion.  I think.  I’ve had 2 before, long stories, at least one is, so I know the symptoms and the drill, I haven’t been to the doctor.  So I haven’t been up to much in the last two days.  I’ve now seen Oprah, I finished a mitten, and I’m about half way through the second one.  I’m not feeling so well, so I’m going to go back down and veg some more in front of the tube.

I do want to add that I hope this week isn’t the week that my blog is reviewed for ring qualifications.  Being rooted and concussed should give me some leeway, right?
